Another live session, say you?
I'm happy to share the live session of Whistle In The Woods!
The video was filmed by our friends Alvaro Ojeda and Matias Fonola, and the song was mixed by our very own bassist, Leni Bryan!
This song has come to mean so much to me and the band. It was just the song I needed to sing the very moment we were recording this; on the way over to The Ant Hill, I recall being in the car talking with Jackie (Lapsteel Guitar) about the recent ICE activity happening in Minneapolis, thinking about how this would impact Chicago, wondering what we're going to do. We filmed this back in mid January, and emotions were certainly peeking.
This helplesness was creeping into my body, anxiety worming its way into my bloodstream and making me jumpy at any given thing. It was with this feeling of hyper vigilance that I went into playing and singing the song for this recording.
A conversation that happens every now and then between my roommate and I is the importance of emotions within a movement. It's very easy to let fear or apathy settle in. Or to just assume nothing can be done so why bother feeling anything about it anyway? However it is in allowing the things around us to have an impact on us, that we get to feel as human as we can be, and in that feeling, we can being to take action.
In many ways these emotions shifted have shifted into action for me. I've learned a lot this year about how movements work, about how change has happened in the past, and I've felt inspired to see change happen for us. But it won't be easy, and it will take time, and we will feel every emotion under the sun on the way.
For me, Whistle In The Woods is just one part of the soundtrack of these emotions.
What's a song that makes up your soundtrack? Reply back and let me know, I'd love to dig into some new tunes!
Take Care out there!
