Hey Sunflowers!
Ever find yourself in a moment where it's quiet? Maybe too quiet?
Well sound off the alarm because Today is the day Whistle In The Woods hits all streaming platforms!
The day after Trump won his first election felt like walking through the most surreal fog, like stepping into a black mirror episode. My college campus was silent - as if someone really beloved had died and we were all grieving.
And in fact, something did die. Our hopes, our dreams for something bigger, better, beyond our college years. Extinguished overnight.
Some of our professors canceled class. Others held space for us to feel. No one expected anyone to be okay.
However, this election would show people' colors. I went to school in a very purple place, and the hate that emerged after Trump won was palpable. I couldn't name it then. I couldn't process it then. But I just felt in my bones that something had changed forever, that nothing would ever be as it was.
All these years later, I understand that whatever American Dream many of us lived with - whatever American Dream I had once entertained - was fallacy. A brighter eyed, more trusting and optimistic version of myself disappeared and continued to chip away with each month.
In turn, my spidey senses went on; I started to see things through a lens of skepticism, anxiety leading the way in the name of self-protection.
In some ways I've become stronger, more guarded. This has made me more prepared to take on any bad news.
So when Trump won his second presidency - this time I was angry. Instead of wallowing in a wealth of sad I had and have a wealth of rage that propels me to advocate and fight for change. This political landscape is unacceptible, and I will not stand by it!!
I have since written so many songs surrounding my feelings around this, April Fools being just the tip of the iceberg, and now Whistle In The Woods more boldly proclaiming my stance.
Whistle In The Woods is a call for action - a call to stand for what you believe and be ready, stay ready!
You can now support this mission on bandcamp and listen everywhere :)
